I have a zen xtra 30 GB.

Every time I attach my player to my Windows XP Computer it appears to
connects as a usb mass storage device (in device manager). Not as a Windows
Portable Device as shown in the creative.com knowledge base.

When the player boots, it reports a firmware problem and goes into rescue
mode.

When I try to Reload OS from the rescue menu, the firmware program
ZenXtra_PCFW_LA_1_20_08.exe does not see the device connected when the
player instructs me to "Start the firmware update now" .

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you know what firmware version was on it previously? e.g. the v2.xx MTP
firmware

Howdy,
That meets the description to what was the last gasp of my Nomad
to a tee. I was trying to update the firmware to the v2.xx version,
and the downloader hung, and now my computer refuses to even
recognized the device as anything other than a 20GB USB disk drive. I
tried following to solutions listed at:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t114316-firmware_problem
and
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/307045

but nothing helped. Time lost, >6 hours. An iPod is looking rather
attractive about now. Any help would be dearly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron
