NBJ3 headphone socket

Hello all,

I have a NJB3 which has been working flawlessly for the past 5 1/2
years and I have upgraded the hard disk to 60GB. Since last month, the
headphone socket has been behaving weirdly. Seems like an apparent
loose connection. I have opened up the case and cleaned, added
lubricant to the headphone socket. This doesn't seem to fix the
problem. The line out with my Bose triport seems to be too loud. I
depend on my jukebox a lot and was hoping there is an *inexpensive* way
to fix the problem. I would like it to last for at least another year
before I graduate and get a *real* job. Any suggestions would be very
helpful. Thanks people !

I believe there's a setting to duplicate the line out on the second line out
socket. Have you checked for that?

Ira Kane: Snag it!
Harry Block: Snag it?
Ira Kane: Yeah. Come on, it's for science.
Harry Block: I've seen this movie, the black dude dies first. YOU snag
it!

SSR,
I know you can set a 4 channel output and 3-4 line outs are from the
second line out socket. Is that what you are referring to ? If yes,
that would mean I cannot control the volume level on that. Also, the
quality of the music wouldn't be the same like the output from
headphone socket. Isn't that right ? I feel the ideal would be to
replace the headphone socket. Is there a cheap way to replace the
headphone socket ?

thanks

Apologies. I saw "headphone" and for some reason read "line out". Yep, line
out will be too loud, it's about 80% volume.

Probably all that can be done is to resolder the headphone socket or replace
it, which is going to be difficult unless you have a friend or local shop
that would do the repair.

Hi,
I saw a temporary solution by Mark at nomadness.net. Tried it and it
seems to be working as a temporary fix. If this fails eventually, need
to look for another alternative. Meanwhile, this fix works works works
!!

Thanks for trying to help SSR :-)

Ah, interesting! I've heard of a similar technique used with the Zen Micro.

So, which is better for sound output to a car's head unit, the headphone
jack or the line out?

I am using the unit as a permanent player for my car.
